The department has been offering UG course in Botany in combination with Chemistry, Botany and with biotechnology which was introduced in the year 2002. Currently Department is following NEP syllabus introduced by Bengaluru City University during the year 2021-22. The department is committed to provide a holistic education in Plant sciences at undergraduate level. The students are provided with excellent academic ambience by providing all the amenities required for a student. Department is well equipped with 2 spacious laboratories, “M. S. Swaminathan” museum, fossil corner and many other specimens. Regular class room teaching is augmented with many curricular, cocurricular and extracurricular activities. The departmental Association Phyton-Club comprising staff and students consistently conducts student enrichment programmes, interactive workshops, seminars, workshops, field visits, industrial visits, Study tours and many more. These activities bring about participative learning and experiential learning among the students.

Another association Eco Club Named ‘Prakruthi’ is mainly established to instil environmental consciousness among all the stakeholders. It conducts wide array of programmes such as rallies. Plantation programmes, interactive workshops, interclass and intercollegiate competitions, film shows etc and thus serving institutional social responsibility

The regular curriculum provided by the Bengaluru city University has been enriched with Certificate courses (both self-financed and UGC sponsored) to equip them to face the current challenges in job markets and Value-added courses which uphold the value of plant science in their life.

Department nurtures research culture along with academics. Faculty has completed 3 minor research projects sponsored by UGC. The students are also given curricular and non-curricular projects to inculcate research culture.
